It's always a great feeling to finish a piece. This afternoon I'm pleased to say that my marimba piece has reached a double bar. There is a lot of fine-tuning yet to do, but I think most of the notes are there and arranged in a quasi-chronological order :). Woohoo!

Happy Thanksgiving, all! I'm looking forward to spending some extra quality time with my bed and catching up on some much needed sleep... oh yeah, and composing too! I think I can finish the marimba solo by the weekend if I work hard, so that's the goal (provided the turkey/beer/football coma doesn't take me out from Thursday to Sunday. You never know.)
Today I got some good work done on the marimba solo that I'm writing for my friend Darrin Hicks. The goal is to finish by December 1st--fingers crossed. I'm composing that piece in conjunction with the ensemble work I'm writing for the TCU Percussion Ensemble; I figure that Darrin will point out all my dumb mistakes on the solo and then hopefully I won't make them on the larger work, which will have a lot more eyes on it :). Onward and upward...
I'm very excited for the premiere of my Capriccio for piano, four hands tonight at TCU! Many thanks to Sara Doan and Zachary Stoughton for putting this together. Please drop by if you're in the Fort Worth area!
Details: 7:30pm Rm. 141 Moudy Building North Texas Christian University Tonight is the Student Composers Concert at TCU. This is one of my favorite concerts of the year because it represents the hard work of our composition studio, and it's always well attended. The latter might be because of our famous post-concert receptions... but I like to think it's also because of the music :)
Come out and show your support, tonight (11/11/10) at 7pm in PepsiCo Recital Hall at TCU! Tonight I'll be singing with the TCU New Music Choir. Come out and support new music by TCU composers! 7pm PepsiCo Recital Hall!
